Abstract

The current stage in the development of the global coal market is marked by growing global challenges, which raise the need to re-evaluate the prospects of production and consumption of coal as well as its conversion products. The key purpse of the article is to assess the existing forecasts and scenarios for the development of the global coal market, which is characterised with a structural shock caused by the clash of the two opposing trends, i.e. the expansion of the‘green agenda’ and the rising demand for energy resources from the developing countries. The article analyses the current state of the key parameters in this market segment, as well as forecast scenarios for its development, and identifies the factors driving the transformation of the global coal market.
