Abstract

The article examines the key economic indicators that determine the dynamics and sustainability of the development of the Russian coal industry. The analysis of macroeconomic and sectoral factors affecting production volumes, exports, investment activity and profitability of enterprises is carried out. Special attention is paid to the trends of recent years related to fluctuations in global energy prices, sanctions pressure, changes in the structure of domestic demand and technological shifts. It is concluded that the industry needs to adapt to new economic realities and transition to a sustainable development model based on increased energy efficiency and depth of coal processing.

The Russian coal industry has remained an important component of the national fuel and energy complex for decades. Its importance goes beyond energy: it forms a significant part of regional budgets, provides employment in single-industry territories and affects the socio-economic sustainability of entire regions. In the context of sanctions restrictions, changes in the structure of global demand and the transition to "green" energy, the coal industry found itself in a situation where it needed to adapt to new economic realities.

In recent years, the development of the coal industry has been influenced by several multidirectional factors at once: lower prices on international markets, higher transport costs, increased currency risks, as well as limited access to foreign financing and technology. At the same time, there is still a high demand for coal in Asian countries, which allows Russian companies to maintain export volumes with a change in the geography of supplies. The study of key economic indicators that determine the sustainability and competitiveness of the industry is of particular scientific and practical importance.
