Abstract

The article investigates the enhancement of production and economic indicators in coal open-pit mines through the automation of mining and transport complexes (GTC), focusing on opportunities for logistics optimization, cost reduction, and improved safety. The author analyzes the operational principles of automated control systems (ACS GTC), including real-time equipment monitoring using GLONASS/GPS with RTK correction, IoT sensors, and intelligent route optimization algorithms. Special attention is given to global implementations (Australia, Canada, South Africa) and Russian solutions (“КАРАТ”, “ГОРИЗОНТ”), demonstrating 10–30% productivity growth and 15-20% operational cost reduction. Challenges in integrating heterogeneous systems and adapting to extreme conditions are highlighted. Economic efficiency is proven through case studies at SUEK and Kuzbassrazrezugol enterprises: for a medium-sized mine (10 million tons/year), investment payback period is 0.7-1.4 years with annual benefits reaching 180 million rubles. The key conclusion states that GTC automation transforms from a technological tool into a strategic factor for global competitiveness of Russia’s coal industry.
