Abstract
The paper presents the results of studying technological and technical aspects of surface mining operations in coal deposits in Hungary. The remote sensing studies and analytical calculations helped to reveal the number and models of the continuous bucket excavators operated in the coal pits, the length of the conveyor lines as well as to determine the annual volume of overburden removed and coal dispatched to the thermal power plant. A stable trend has been identified based on the results of satellite imaging and analytical calculations of surface coal production in Hungary.
