Abstract

Based on statistical data, the article analyzes the relationship between the share of the extractive industry in the gross regional product of the regions of the Russian Federation and their quality-of-life indices. As a result, a contradiction has been revealed between the economic contribution of the coal mining industry to the country’s GDP and the quality of life of the population in specialized regions. Using the construction of trend lines, the linear dependences of the quality-of-life index of regions specializing in mining are analyzed on such economic indicators as: gross regional product, budget revenues per capita and the volume of goods shipped by type of activity “Mining”. It is concluded that ensuring a high quality of life in regions specializing in coal mining requires an integrated approach, including investments in the social sphere, the development of human capital, the creation of a favorable environment, as well as taking into account the historical and geographical context.
