Abstract

The paper presents the results of studying technological and technical aspects of surface mining operations in coal deposits in the Republic of Poland. The remote sensing studies and analytical calculations helped to reveal the number and models of the continuous bucket excavators operated in the coal pits, the length of the conveyor lines as well as to determine the annual volume of overburden removed and coal dispatched to thermal power plants. The results of satellite observations during a two-decade period indicate a stable downward trend in surface coal mining in Poland.
