Abstract

The article presents the results of studying the environmental state of lands disturbed upon completion of underground coal mining of the coal-bearing areas of the Moscow region coal basin in the territory of the Smolensk and Kaluga Regions. The areas of mine spoil piles have been identified. The directions are defined of the coal and rock mixture transfer from the surface of the mine spoil piles to the rivers under the action of atmospheric precipitation. Complex activities are proposed to accelerate the recovery of the environmental balance on the surface of the mine spoil piles by applying loose Quaternary rocks with the thickness of at least one meter and subsequent planting of trees and shrubs as well as sowing of leguminous and cereal grasses.
