CIRCULAR MINE METHANE MANAGEMENT FOR POWER SUPPLY OF DRILLING RIGS
Abstract
When developing coal seams with high gas content, attempts are often made to partially close the energy consumption cycle by generating their own electricity by burning the extracted methane-air mixtures in gas piston units (GPU). The purpose of using gas piston units is to reduce operating costs in drilling due to the use of associated petroleum gas. The main objectives are: comparison of existing technologies for power supply of drilling rigs; technical justification of the GPU operability in power supply of drilling rigs; economic effect when using GPU. The use of this technology will be one of the first projects for power supply of drilling on gas piston units in Russia. The use of GPU will make it possible to utilize associated petroleum gas, which eliminates fines for its flaring, and this, in turn, is another item of cost savings. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of developing practical recommendations for the circular management of coal mine methane during the development of coal and unconventional gas (shale gas) deposits.
