Abstract

The Pechora coal basin is the largest in European Russia in terms of coking coal reserves, primarily used in the field of metallurgy, which is of critical importance for the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. In this regard, Defenders of the Fatherland Day, celebrated on February 23, 2024, is directly related to workers in the coal industry and related professions. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, miners made a visible contribution to the manufacture of the “shield and sword” of Victory, as well as in providing energy to other sectors of the national economy of the USSR. This contribution is recognized by the state, which awarded the administrative center of the Pechora coal mining – Vorkuta, the honorary title of the Russian Federation “City of Labor Valor”. Therefore, the work on studying the history of coal deposits in the Komi Republic and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, identifying its glorious villages, as well as people who served as an example for miners and representatives of related professions, will continue.
