Abstract

The article presents the results of studying the environmental state of lands disturbed upon completion of underground coal mining of the coal-bearing areas of the Moscow region coal basin in the territory of the Novgorod and Tver Regions. The areas of mine spoil banks have been revealed. The directions are defined of the coal and rock mixture transfer from the surface of the mine spoil banks to the rivers under the action of atmospheric precipitation. Complex activities are proposed to accelerate the recovery of the environmental balance on the surface of the mine spoil banks by applying loose Quaternary rocks with the thickness of at least one meter and sowing leguminous and cereal crops as well as trees and shrubs.
