Abstract

This research work focuses on a comprehensive fundamental analysis of the prospects for the development of the global coal industry in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and aggravation of the global geopolitical situation [1]. In order to achieve this goal, the paper analyzes the impact of the economic and political turmoil observed since the beginning of 2019 on the main coal futures contracts and the changes in net profit of the leading multinational corporations operating in the coal mining industry. In conclusion, a short-term and long-term forecast for the coal industry development in various global commodity markets is presented based on the above analysis.
