Abstract
The article addresses the role of the international norms and principles in ensuring environmental safety in the coal industry. The authors analyze various international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol, the Paris Agreement, the Aarhus Convention and others which aim to reduce the adverse environmental impact of the coal industry. Based on analyzing the norms of “hard” and “soft” international law in the investigated area, the authors propose ways to improve the international legal regime of environmental safety of the coal industry.
