Abstract
The analysis of injury causes during cleaning-up of mined rock spilled from belt conveyors by conveyor operators in technological complexes of the surface of coal mines as well as at coal cleaning facilities is carried out. The analysis is carried out with the use of situational approach whereby an accident is caused by definite combination of causes; an elimination of at least one cause makes the injury of a worker impossible. With the help of logical-and-probabilistic method the quantitative evaluation of the impact of causes on accident occurrence has been made and the most ‘significant’ causes have been determined. Minimal safety limits are obtained which observance enables the prevention of operator injuries even if there are other breaches of labour safety. It has been established that the most comfortable technique of cleaning-up of mined rock spilled from belt conveyors for conveyor operators by removed enclosure of belt pulley while the conveyor is in operation is the most injurious at the same time, thus the development of a new transport machine devoid of design features of the belt conveyor causing injuries is necessary.
