Abstract

At the Institute of Chemical and Oil and Gas Technologies of the Kuzbass State Technical University named after T.F. Gorbachev, research was conducted to obtain samples of coal tar by atmospheric and atmospheric vacuum distillation of coal tar. The following qualitative characteristics were determined for the obtained samples of coal pitches: elemental composition, softening temperature, solubility in toluene and quinoline, ash content, yield of volatile substances, coke number. The research results showed that the quality of the obtained pitch samples meets the requirements for baking for electrode production. However, the qualitative characteristics of the obtained samples of coal pitches do not meet the requirements for baking raw materials for the production of carbon fibers. A comparative analysis of the quality of pitch samples showed that coal tar obtained by atmospheric vacuum distillation of resin has a better quality than pitch obtained by atmospheric distillation of resin.
