Abstract

The task of effective mining of coal seams using the underground method becomes increasingly important with each passing year. It is beneficial both in terms of the safety of further mining operations and from the economic point of view. The longwall mining method nowadays tends to develop towards increasing the size of the working face which leads to higher material loss in the pillars, while their recovery with the stoping complex becomes more complicated, and the rate of excavation goes down as well.

This paper provides a comparative assessment of the mining the economically unviable coal reserves using the room-and-pillar, shortwall and augering mining methods. Experimental technological workflows of shortwall mining and augering are presented with advantages and advantages of the proposed technologies being specified.
